AOL9 and AOL Dialler

I have just taken delivery of a new PC - on my old PII running 98SE I would connect using AOL dialler and not open AOL browser, I would run MSN Messenger, Outlook Express and Mozilla quite happily - on my new PC - I have to have the browser running otherwise I lose my connections to MSN, Outlook and Mozilla, - AOL have been worse than useless suggesting that it's the manufacturers - any ideas?

Do you have broadband or dial up?

If its dialup,I also was advised it was possible to configure my own dialup(as AOL browser cannot be adjusted to suit a 1600x1200 resolution)Each time I try to connect "direct" to AOL,I get "The remote computer did not respond blah, blah" from one number,if I set it up to try a second AOL number it just refuses to accept my username/password.I use AOL to connect, then minimise it,and use my browser of choice. As I have finally reached a resolution to my BT problems,I will be junking AOL dialup shortly and returning to ADSL,and as AOL BB is expensive it wont be them providing it.
