aol webmail

Hello, I've heard this forum is the best place for advise, so here I am!
Very recently, my aol webmail has been sending a link, un-beknown to me, along with my emails. I've only found out because my friends have queried what's been sent.
Is this a hacked email, a security threat such as virus etc?
I've delted all my contacts, as with each email, the email was then being sent to another 20 emails I've used infrequently.
Thanks in advance.
