aol connection on new dell with vista

Hi, I just got a new dell laptop 1720 running vista. installed aol 9.0vr and got connected ok on broadband as i have an account. Got a popup that the Mcaffee virus had updated itself then the computer shutdown and restarted. when I logged on to aol again I got connected but a blank page then a message that aol has stopped working and windows will shut down aol. At the top of the blank page I can still open e mails before windows shuts it down.
Do you think its vista or the Mcaffee update did something. what checks can I do.
thanks in advance
