AOL broadband

I use two pc on AOL broadband on a d-link modem-router (threw the supplied one away)
Everything works fine on both pc (except azureus but thats another thing) when surfing with the AOL proprietry browser, however on both pc if using IE it will only work with certain URL ( ie google is fine, most UK domains work but not all and .com urls are a no-no).
While attempting to get azureus working i discovered that aol use a proxy server...is this the cause of the IE probs. IE is set to automatically detect network setting however there is an option to use proxy server and some setting tabs.
I figure its either this or a router setting that needs altering, but as the mrs is ebay-mad am reluctant to mess with the router and queer her connection.
I could just stick with the AOL browser but its clunky to say the least and does not support FTP uploading which i need on occasions.

Aint pooters grand :P

TIA
Julian
