I'm on NTL's basic 17.99 Broadband package which should run at 150k but the best I can get out of it after several tests at any time of day is 14-16kb. NTL gave me a free month on 600k last year to try and get me to sign up for the faster speed but to be honest it didn't make much difference. I don't think you will get any joy out of NTL. I have had them tweaking my modem and raising the power in the green box on the road side but it won't go any faster.

1st 128K took 1853 ms = 70735 Bytes/sec = approx 589 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 1893 ms = 69240 Bytes/sec = approx 576 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 1832 ms = 71546 Bytes/sec = approx 595 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 1823 ms = 71899 Bytes/sec = approx 598 kbits/sec

so now im confused , why these results , but other sites say nothing like ?

Did a test the other night as my NTL BB seems to have slowed down over the last few months,

Downstream 563 Kbps
Upstream 65 Kbps

This is on a 6ooKbsp connection.

im not sure why its saying you have 600k service when you say you have 150k.but your speed will vary at different times of the day and site your trying to download from.ntl have a contention ratio of 20/1 meaning that at any time up to 20 other customers in your area can share your bandwith.check the speed at different times of the day to get a better picture.

my email was a bit slow yesterday on 600k,today its ok.have a look click here

where did you do the test . was it the same place as huggyg71's link ? if not can you link me to that site .

1st 128K took 4106 ms = 31922 Bytes/sec = approx 266 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 4006 ms = 32719 Bytes/sec = approx 272 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 3805 ms = 34447 Bytes/sec = approx 287 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 3756 ms = 34897 Bytes/sec = approx 290 kbits/sec

is there an isp out there that can actually sustain the speeds it boasts ? if so id like to hear opinions as my contracts up at the end of the year and im really not happy with ntl .
