So technically NOT a PC question but will help in the filling out of a form for an application I am using.

Is a barcode unique to the product that it is attached to?

In other words same barcode for the same product, even if there are hundread of thousands of them.

The product in question is a DVD.

As far as I'm aware, yes. The barcode, which the POS system is programmed with, ID's the product and the POS returns the details/price. I have a couple of readers which I've been messing about with (the old hand-held that they used to use in shops), and scanning different units of the same product all returned the same number.

I'm not 100% sure but I think that part of the barcode refers to the manufacturer and the rest is unique to the product.
