i have xp as os.i have avast antvirus and zonealarm firewall both are free versions

I would suggest doing a scan with avast if you haven't lately and then downloading the free version of superantispyware and doing a scan with it.

Make sure Avast is up to date before scanning.

Have seen a suggestion of some people having conflict issues with Zone alarm and Avast.
I would ditch Zone alarm(very resource hungry) and download sygate or comodo firewalls(free)

Agree with mrwoowoo, Comodo firewall and Avast AV work well together.
Uninstall Zonealarm firewall, reboot and reset windows' firewall.
Run a reg cleaner such as Ccleaner or Regscrubvistaxp (note not regscrubxp). Find on a search engine.
Reboot then install Comodo firewall.

no problems with avast and sygate together.
