Not everybody knows this, I certainly didn't.

This could explain those 'System Restore doesn't work' threads.

This is also why we tell people to switch off system restore clean the pc and switch restore back on and create a new restore point.

The advice I always give is to turn off system restore before scanning with anti-virus but this will of course lose all your restore points.

Reading through your link I interpret it as you can save your restore points by using the method suggested.

IE: Scan first, turn of anti-virus then select your last restore point rather than turning it off. Turn anti-virus back on, re-scan then enable system restore again.

Is this correct or have I misunderstood the article? j.

Who knows? :-) It appears that the system will automatically go through the system restore and virus check as it does so. Any virus that cannot be dealt with will result in a failed restore. Whether any indication is given as to why it failed is not clear.
