Antivirus program blocking Outlook

I'm using AOL Active Virus Shield as my main Antivirus program along with Comodo AntiSpam 2005. The problem is that the AOL is stopping Outlook Express from connecting to the POP3 server. It works fine when I disable the mail antivirus but I can't find any settings on AOL to bypass this. Is it ok to just leave the mail antivirus disabled or have I missed something? Thanks to anyone who takes the trouble to reply.

Hi carryduff,Aol are no longer supporting 'AOL Active Virus Shield',I would uninstall it and use Something else.

AVG.
