Anti Virus software wants to delete infected file

Just done a system scan and found viruses. All viruses have been quarantined except one, which the Anti Virus software wants to delete (unable to repair or quarintine)

Just wondering: this means the file will be deleted from system along with the infection. Will this affect the running of the system? (If you delete a file then it's gone.)

The file in question is: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fuffy.exe.

What happens when I have to delete a file critical to the running of the system?

I've looked all this up in Norton instruction manual, but it's not really helpful.

fuffy.exe is not a system file it is the virus - you can safely delete it.
