Anti-Spyware Scan Freeze

I am running Win XP Pro SP2 and use AVG anti virus and Zonealarm.
Recently, when trying to run a routine anti spyware and anti virus scan, everything runs OK until I get to 'System Volume Information\tracking.log' and then the scans freeze.
I am aware that it is something to do with the system restore and have tried turning it off and rebooting but the scans still freeze.
I have tried various anti spyware tools but nothing shows up.
Other than this problem the computer seems to run OK.
I am a bit concerned as to what is causing this. Can anyone help please?

Have you tried in safe Mode?

  hardtofind 23:24 22 Aug 07

No. Thanks for that. I will give it a try.

Hi woodchip

Sorry for delay, just got in from work. Tried the scans in safe mode and they ran through OK but they picked nothing up.
Ran a scan again in full mode and it again seized at System Volume Information\tracking.log.

Any ideas please?

Hi is there a setting to ignore System volume on scanning?

How long is "Seized" ~ Your Tracking Log could be huge, with thousands of individual entries, each of which is seen as a file.

mfletch
No, unable to ignore.

Well, I have left it for an hour or so. This has only just started fairly recently. But I have also tried it with system restore turned off.

You say it could be huge. Is there a way of emptying it or cutting it down?

Hi turning system restore off deletes all your restore points anyway,

So that would empty the tracking log, is that right?

'System Volume Information\tracking.log' is part of Windows automated Search Functiomn.

This will probably confuse the issue. Sorry I cant be of more help. click here
