Android tablet will connect to wi-fi but Windows 8 laptop won't

I'm using a friend's internet connection in France. I'm staying in an outbuilding near the main house. This building is equipped with a D-Link DAP 1360 wireless access point, connected to the router in the main house by Cat 5e cabling.

I have an Android tablet and a Windows 8 laptop. The tablet has established a Wi-Fi connection to the internet via the D-Link unit with no problem. However, on the laptop the only way I can get the internet is to take the Ethernet cable out of the back of the wireless access unit and connect it directly to the laptop. If I try to connect the laptop wirelessly I can get a Wi-Fi link to the wireless access unit, but not to the internet.

Any thoughts on how to get a Wi-Fi connection to the internet for the laptop, please?
