Android stock email client failed

Having downloaded an Android software update to my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet the email client no longer works. Starting email just produces a blank white page with "email" in the top left corner. Going into settings / email does the same, just a blank page with "settings" in the top left corner. The Remove Account function doesn't work either. If I press Sync Email it just permanently tries to sync but does nothing. I'm using Android version 4.2.2
