Analogue Video to DVD

Can anyone advise on the most effective and cost efficient way of transferring Analogue video (from camcorder or VHS video) to DVD.

I have see USB devices (Belkin etc) that attach to the Video and audio phono plugs on the camcorder but how do these compare against a video card or video capture card?

I don't want to get into major expense as I only want to back up home movies.

Your video player, aeriel plugged into a TV card (approx £30) is a an easy way to get analogue video onto your computer, quality is limited to the original recording on the tape.
