amd xp 3200+ barton core - incorrect speed

I have a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP motherboard,VIA KT400 chipset with 1.5Gb of PC3200 ram. I have just tried to upgrade from a Athlon 2400+ to a 3200+, when I first installed it came up in system properties as a 2500+ I have since altered some settings in bios (with the help of my son). We altered the multipler to 11 but have now set it to auto & now can only start the computer with the 100MHz setting to on, the computer is now showing 1.1Ghz for the processor. Can anyone help, bearing in mind that I am a complete novice with bios settings etc

You could try clearing the bios with the jumper (see your handbook) or by removing the battery for a minute or so.

According to this it only runs PC2100 and PC2700 what is your memory running at?
And also runs cpus with a fsb of 266 and 333[133 & 166]

I also have the same motherboard and even though I have PC 3200 RAM it actually runs at 333 mhz to be in sync with the processor.
It is a bit of a con for the Chipset to be labelled VIA KT400 chipset when it DOESN'T run at the designated speed!

Why is it a con? it is the name of the chipset used for the northbridge and no statment of speed.

The best way around it is to buy a XP2500+ mobile click here and run it at 166x14. If your PCI clock is locked then i'd ramp FSB up even higher.

I thought it was a con as when I bought the motherboard I was expecting the FSB & memory to run at 400 mhz and as I had bought Kingston PC 3200 RAM, I was a bit disappointed to later find out that only the 333 mhz speed was supported!

It was really my fault as I didn't research the motherboard before I bought it!
