i have an msi mobo no 6390 l with amd 2100+ 256mb ram.
it will not go any faster than a 1700+ by changing the bios settings after that it tends to lock up as the desk top starts to boot up. i use a 300 watt psu. do i need a heavier psu of 400 watt to power this?
anybody help!

Nah, 300W is enough. Are you sure that your motherboard will support an AMD XP 2100+? You shouldn't mess about with BIOs too much as your motherboard might become not work if done too much. A 350W PSU might help though but it depends on what you also have in your PC.

Have you been in cmos and altered the frequency to 133/133

PS I have a 1600xp+ and have been to 1900xp+ without any probs for about 2 weeks. With it set to 150/150

i have tried changing the frequency in the bios

(my multiplier is 13) but once i go to 116 frequency the machine locks up on the desktop.
what made me think it was the psu is that my old one would not even work the leds

Check all CPU jumpers on mobo

had a look at MSI's web site and ya mobo can take upto xp2600+, so there could be a problem with ya mobo or the jumpers/bios settings could be set wrong

kenny, in reply to your original question, a 300W supply should be ok for your XP2100+, but all supplies are not equal. The fact that the supply is capable of delivering 300W without burning out doesn't necessarily mean that it can deliver that power to the specification required by your processor.

would also consider getting bigger psu, qtec do a good dual fan 400 watt about £20 at good pc fair, decent shop £25

Although you probably know already, just incase you don't the Athlon XP 2100 runs at 1.73 Ghz not 2.1ghz
