AMD OR P4 Upgrade or New

I have a 7 year old system 1000mgz athlon with all built in motherboard gigabyte non upgradeable
which has been ok for its previous use but now kids wantng to play games and is generally used more it is noticably slow
Do i upgrade or buy a new base unit and what spec/who from
£450 to spend on new base unit..

in this issue of pc advisor, they say if you need to spend over £350 on upgrading, you might aswell shell out for a whole new pc altogether. try building ur own pc and then you can keep some stuff to reuse from ur current pc like the case perhaps and monitor, keyboard, mouse and sound card. all you wanna buy is a motherboard, processor and ram. nomore than £250. so actually its upgrading not just by adding parts, but by replacing parts totally.

you will not save much by upgrade

click here, you can configure a Performa 5000 MK2, better to get 120GB HDD, 512MB RAM and a DVD writer, slightly slower CPU is nota problem

make you you get a good graphics card, ATI 9600 is good value for money card for games
