what does it do when you power up - need more details - does it beep - does the monitor power up - some asus bios have a voice that tells you error messages - anything at all?

No beep and the monitor doesn,t power up. All both fans and hard disk power up and graphic card fan powers up.

Sarting points.

Is the PSu up to the job?

Has the mobo been shipped with the clear Cmos jumper in a park position?

Is the AGP card plugged in fully (My best guess)

Have you got the power button on the case plugged in correctly onto the mobo. (second best guess)

If a new PSu, have you set the voltage switch (if it has one) set to the right voltage.

If a new PSU, have you turned the on/off swith on it to 'on'

Bois settings? If the FSB and multiplyer set wrong ( If you have set FSB x Multiplyer to 3200 it wont work, a AMD XP3200 does not run at 3200Mhz)

This is a first shot, a bit in the dark so to say.

Are you certain you have the correct ram spec and are the memory modules, cpu and all expansion cards properly seated? Is there any way you can try the cpu in another motherboard to make sure it is not faulty?

  Malcolm-190706 20:47 27 Sep 04

Dorsai,

The PSU is 300 watts, every thing else is ok as when I put the old CPU back in (a 1800+) it starts as normal.

OK. SO it is just down to the new CPU in the old Mobo.

3 results from asus, for a7v600.

Going with the non se and non -x option.

No mention of the Max CPU it can take.

so i try click here

which suggest a barton cored AMD XP3200 should work

Now, i ask, what is the opn for the XP3200 CPu you have, and what speed in MHZ are you trying to run it at?

Over

  Malcolm-190706 21:01 27 Sep 04

the BIOS is set to auto

  Noelg23 21:11 27 Sep 04

perhaps the BIOS needs flashing? like Dorsai states it should take the 3200 so I am not sure whats causing this...did you get a heatsink and fan to go with the CPU?

You ought to know Mr. Mistoffelees!

The Original Conjuring Cat--

(There can be no doubt about that).

Please listen to me and don't scoff. All his

Inventions are off his own bat.

There's no such Cat in the metropolis;

He holds all the patent monopolies

For performing suprising illusions

And creating eccentric confusions.

At prestidigitation

And at legerdemain

He'll defy examination

And deceive you again.

The greatest magicians have something to learn

From Mr. Mistoffelees' Conjuring Turn.

Presto!

Away we go!

And we all say: OH!

Well I never!

Was there ever

A Cat so clever

As Magical Mr. Mistoffelees!

He is quiet and small, he is black

From his ears to the tip of his tail;

He can creep through the tiniest crack,

He can walk on the narrowest rail.

He can pick any card from a pack,

He is equally cunning with dice;

He is always deceiving you into believing

That he's only hunting for mice.

He can play any trick with a cork

Or a spoon and a bit of fish-paste;

If you look for a knife or a fork

And you think it is merely misplaced--

You have seen it one moment, and then it is gawn!

But you'll find it next week lying out on th lawn.

And we all say: OH!

Well I never!

Was there ever

A Cat so clever

As Magical Mr. Mistoffelees!

His manner is vague and aloof,

You would think there was nobody shyer--

But his voice has been heard on the roof

When he was curled up by the fire.

And he's sometimes been heard by the fire

When he was about on the roof--

(At least we all heard that somebody purred)

Which is incontestable proof

Of his singular magical powers:

And I have known the family to call

Him in from the garden for hours,

While he was asleep in the hall.

And not long ago this phenomenal Cat

Produced seven kittens right out of a hat!

And we all said: OH!

Well I never!

Did you ever

Know a Cat so clever

As Magical Mr. Mistoffelees!
