am I protected?

I've got my PC and my Mac laptop sharing my broadband connection via a crossover cable - my question is, is the laptop protected by the PC's firewall?

I ask because yesterday when I tried to access what seemed to be a legitmate link on the Mac, a warning popped up on the PC that it was dodgy - I assumed this meant that Norton was looking after both machines - but am I right?

Firewalls, sit between the Internet and your "gateway". In other words, the machine that connects to the net. Everything that comes in or out of your machine, has to go via the firewall, so that applies to any machine connected to yours.

It can depend upon how the firewall is configured, but it sounds as though yours is doing its job.

briliant LastChip, thanks! I thought that was the case, good to have it confirmed by someone who knows what they're talking about
