Am I a prolific proxy server or not ?

Recently I received the message shown below, which follows a somewhat similar message purportedly from a completely different system administrator address.

The gist is that I have seemingly sent a MIME file embedded in a message to someone I don’t know and whose address is not in my address book.

The first one I ignored thinking it was a hoax, now I have second thoughts.

I do have up-to-date XP (including this morning’s update), use Norton, Spy-sweep and Spy-bot fairly religiously, but on the other hand have installed lots of new software recently, including Mozilla browser and email s/w.

So do I have malware (acting as a spam / virus propagator proxy server) or not ?

Most likely someone with your address in their address book has been infected by a virus which is now sending messages - junk/spam/viruses - with your address in the "From:" field. If any of these bounce, they will come back to you even though you never sent them in the first place.

Thks, now that sounds logical. And it gives me the feeling that all is well with my machine.
