Altering system file names in XP Home Edition

  lcs 00:21 20 Jul 03

The local dealer from whom I bought my PC kindly installed XP for me (and gave the the disk!). Unfortunately he mis-spelled my name so under Documents and Settings the directory with my name on it is wrong. I've tried changing the folder name as one normally would but the error message that it is a system folder and cannot be re-named comes up. Any suggestions?

i think this can only be done by reinstalling xp.

Works in Pro - maybe the same in Home edition.

Select User accounts in Control Panel

Select Pick a Task/Change an account

Select the account to change/Change my name.

Leo49's solution is for the log in part only - thanks anyway for your help.

I'm a bit concerned at huggyg71's thoughts - I've reinstalled 98 many times before but never XP!

If there are no files or programs you can't re-instal, and you have the XP disc, do a System Recovery. The dealer should be doing it for you, but the experience could last a lifetime!

But jazzypop's way is better!
