AGP x4 or X8

I have a V333DA motherboard which supports up to AGP X4. My current graphics card is a Radeon Sapphire 9600pro which I think is AGP X8 and runs OK. I am thinking of buying an NVIDIA 6600GT card which I understand is also AGP X8.
My question is:- Am I correct in thinking that AGP X8 runs OK runs on my AGP X4 MOBO (it seems to if my thinking on my current card is right) and would the 6600GT be a better performer than my 9600pro.

AGPx8 cards run OK on most AGPx4 boards - in addition the speed rating is not, as it would appear, linear.

Thanks for that. Any thoughts on upgrading to the card I've mentioned?

As your motherboard is rated as AGP 4, that is the fasted it will go.

OK Terry, are you saying there will be no improvement with that card?

The 6600GT would be a significant improvement over the 9600XT which was a good card in its day. click here
Only thing check your power supply will handle it.

I wouldn't worry about the 4x 8x thing you won't notice much difference in my opinion.

Thank you very much for that opinion. In view of that I think I will give one a go. I believe my psu is a 350 so will probably have to upgrade.
Thanks again.

Gigs if you have the money to get a branded power supply rather than a cheap one do so. Also get a modular one if you can. Modular power supplies just allow you to remove cables you don't need and it makes installing them a lot easier as theres not so many cables hanging about. Better for cooling as well as theres less cables to block the airflow.
