Adware on recovery drive - how?

I have just completed a deep scan with A squared.
On my C drive, which is my main drive, nothing found.
On my D drive which is purely my recovery drive, one item detected, namely:
Adware.win32.Dm.i
Subsequently quarantined and deleted.
Is it normal, easy or what to get malware on what is only a recovery drive ? I have to plead total ignorance here.
Also googling for the above adware leads almost exclusively back to A squared's site which I also find strange - would no other spyware have found it?

Have I stumped you here or were you all away watching the footy?
