Advice required on types of DAS and esata connection

I want to use one unit to house several hard discs that I can access for storage - like a large library of music and films. I don't want a RAID unit, just a lot of storage. I was thinking of a unit like the Icy Box IB-3640SU3 or IB-RD3640SU3 (the former requires a port multiplier, the latter apparently does not) or possibly the Edgestore DAS501T (not sure if this one requires a port multiplier or not) Can anyone please advise on the suitability of these units or on any other reasonably priced multi hard disc storage system, preferably with an esata connection. My PC and laptop will be used (separately) with this unit and both have esata sockets but can anyone also offer advice about this port multiplier possibly needed, as there is no space in my pc or obviously my laptop to fit such a card.
