Advice needed for Lexmark x9350

I have come into possession of a Lexmark x9350 printer/scanner and also an old Ei System 5030 computer which runs Windows XP.
I do not want to print anything I just want to use the scanning function of the printer. I have connected the printer to a USB port on the computer using a lead that came with the printer but the printer set-up software keeps telling me the printer isn't connected. Should I be connecting to the parallel port instead? If this is correct can I obtain a lead with a printer connection in one end and a parallel connection on the other? Or is there some other solution?

Try another usb lead, then check for latest drivers, download then try again.

If the printer as a parallel connection, then there's no reason why you cannot try that, if you have the correct lead.

Did you install the printer driver is the first question?
