Hi
I am looking to buy a computer that can run MarketMaker and Sharescope. One is real time and I need it to refresh and download quickly. The reqs for both pieces of software are
Sharescope Recommended
128MB
256MB
100MB
1024 x 768 or above
56k modem
Broadband Internet
AND
Marketmaker
Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP
PIII 500Mhz
256MB RAM
100Mb Free Disk Space
800x600 Video Resolution
Internet Connection

We have a budget of £400 for a complete desktop - have seen acer and emachines at 299 but as usually buy toshiba/sony laptops not sure about these.
Would also like a m/c that has spare capacity. And is it still the case that you get more for your money in a desktop rather than a laptop.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi, if portability is not part of the equation then a Desktop would be better value for your money, it is of course much easier to expand/improve than a laptop.

PC Nextday click here do some good ones I'm told, as do Mesh click here. Dell click here also offer good value on low end desktops.

1. don't go for a laptop unless you need portability, the keyboards and diplays are smaller
2 The spec for the software is quite low pc for £234 click here and £79 for 15 " monitor click here
3 You would probably get a modem with your broadband deal click here the first month is free
