ADSL Speedtest weirdness, could do with help!

Evening all.

Just migrated to Freedom2Surfs 2mbit ADSL service and although everything's faster than my previous 512kbps connection, I'm having a couple of probs.

On my main PC (hard wired to the modem router), the adslguide speed test is only rating it at approx 750kbps, whereas on my laptop (wirelessly connected to same router) it's being rated as about 1600kbps.

Now, any idea how I can get my main PC up to scratch, but also increase the kbps on both machines in general, as I feel 1600kbps is a little too low for a 2mbit line.

I'd really appreciate your suggestions.

Is your modem router a model which allows you to set the maximum through put on specific ports?

Erm, dunno.

It's a Netgear DG834GT if that helps?!

Not familiar with the specific model click here but would presume if that function is available, it would be described in an accompanying manual/CD.

Presumably your PC is connected with 10/100Mbps ethernet connection rather than a USB 1.0's 1.5Mbps connection?

Yes that's right Danoh

Anyone able to help. By the way I've managed to get both machines at a speed of 1600kbps now (using Dr TCP), however it's just not fast enough for a 2mbit connection.
