adsl router and cable

i have had a new adsl router (4 way)given to me and i would like to know if i can connect it to ntl cable.the input for this modem is a phone socket but i have a cable connection.can i use my existing cable modem and connect it to one of the rj 45 sockets (leaving 3 free for connecting pc,s to)or am i wasting my time trying?.thanks.peter.

Logic says it won't work but then I've a feeling that it might. Don't know about NTL but Telewest doesn't hav any passwords for the service only the need to register the MAC address of the router/pc/cable modem to get connected.

If you have all the kit then I can't see it taking too long to test out so give it a go.
