After connecting my laptop only , to the internet through a wirless adsl modem router i have now found i can't connect to my ISP using my desktop computer with an external USB modem .The ADSL light just flashes continously.i'm on broadband with Pipex
Is it possible to still use my USB modem for my desk top with the router switched off, or will i have to buy a wireless card for desk top.
The router and desk top are in different areas so i can't just hard wire to wireless router .

You can not connect two modems to one account. You will have to get a wireless card or wireless USB dongle for your desktop machine.

The flashing light is telling you that the modem isn't synchronising with the telephone exchange. Possibilities I can think of include -

No Filter on the modem.
Faulty filter.
Faulty modem.
Defect on the telephone line either in your house or between your house and the telephone exchange.
Fault at the telephone exchange.
Wrong modem settings
