Administrator password

When trying to enter Recovery Console after F8 at bootup etc. system asks for administrator password.
My user logon password doesn't work and I have never created any other on the system.
Probably entered by manufacturer when PC put together but they have gone bust since.
Is there a way to reset this password without loosing bios.

works for 2000 may work for XP

This registry edit causes the Recovery Console not to ask for a password. This works for both XP Home and XP Professional.
Start | Run | Regedit
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole
Set the DWORD SecurityLevel value to 1
Exit Registry and Reboot
