Adding USB 2.0 to Laptop

  PC User 19:16 06 May 04

I want to buy a PCMCIA Card to add USB 2.0 Ports to my laptop.

I have a a VAIO PIII 933MHz with 2 PCMCIA Slots

Now I read somewhere that the Cardbus Data transfer rate is something like 120MB/s

So that means the max speed of 480MB/s of USB 2.0 wont be achieved...

Am I right?

Also read that NEC based cards are better than ALI based cards? So can someone point me to a suitable card.

If this is a Win98 or WinME computer forget it. It will not work, it will only work as a USB1.1 If you could get USB 2 Driver with the Card then it may work. There is none on the Win CD

I am running Win 2000 Pro

Any hope?

That should work, as it does say driver installation manual but I would check to see if USB 2 drivers are supplied as if not it will only run at USB 1.1

There are no USB 2 drivers on the Win2000 CD

Any other opinions?

If you read features under the Belkin advert you will it is compatable with Windows® 98SE, 2000, Me, and XP.

I'm running a desktop running win98se with a usb2 pci card which came with drivers and no problem. The belkin card does say that it comes with driver installation manual but probably means a cd.

Go her for the drivers anyway click here=
