Adding SATA Optical Drives

My ASUS P5KC mobo has 4 SATA connectors - I am using just 2 of them for internal hard drives.

I wish to replace my IDE CD ROM and DVD burner with two new ones. Can I buy SATA versions and plug them into the unused SATA sockets - if so - does it matter which sockets are used by hard drives and optical ones?

Yes

Only restriction is op system needs to be on the drive plugged into the lowest numbered SATA port.
