Adding SATA hard drive

Hi. I'm currently upgrading my desktop, and am thinking of using an SATA drive as my bootable drive. My motherboard only has IDE connectors at the moment, so I'll be buying an SATA PCI card.
If I use an SATA as my primary bootable drive, can I still use my IDE drive for additional storage?

Yes. You may need to load SATA drivers and configure the SATA drive as the first boot device in the BIOS

Brilliant, thanks very much.
What would be the best way to go about this? Should I connect it all, install windows on the SATA drive and hope for the best? Or is it better to install the SATA drive as an additional drive first to see if I need to update the drivers/BIOS, then install windows on it?
