I am getting a DELL DIMENSION 8300 and want to upgrade with an extra 512MB of ram asap but I have to order either parity or non parity. Anyone got a DIMENSION and can tell me they correct type or can it vary from PC to PC?

Get aida32 to id the mobo and memory type; then go to crucial.com/uk and tell it the machine. That will give you the options.

"getting a DELL DIMENSION 8300 "

A new system? If that be the case you may be better checking your speck and see whats on offer with Dell for matching. (if buying new)

Thanks all but now a little confused! I know it will have 512mb(2X256) of Dual Channel 400MHz DDR Memory.

Does this mean I can only add 2 x 256 and not 1 x 512 or 2 x 512. I seem to remember the slots have to have the same amounts of memory. I just want to fill it up and forget about it for another 5 years.

go to your link,as you will see in the list when you click on the "learn more, right side of page"

You could at the same time order 2x256 =£75 or

2x 516 or 2x ? depends on what ,or how much ram you want and can afford.

"Depends if your having a new system."

As I am still awaiting my PC I will not order any memory in anticipation because knowing my luck I will end up with the wrong type. Will post back once resolved.
