My computer is an HP Pavilion a1605fr with Windows XP.
It came with the following memory: Samsung 512MB IRX8 PC2-4200U-444-12-D3 M378T6553CZ3-CD5 0636
I was advised to buy the following memory to increase the computer's capacity:
DDR251PC4200DDR2 533MHZ/PC4200 512MB
After I fitted the memory, the computer showed the increase to 2 gig of memory but later the computer turned itself off (about an hour after memory was installed)
It came back on again stuck in BIOS asking me to pess F2 to continue. I did so and it worked as normal showing the new memory.
I removed the new memorybut it still stops in BIOS and asks me to press F2.
Any idea what's wrong?

some pcs require you to go into the bios when you alter the memory configuration. Once done this does not normally ask for you to do it again. Try altering the position of the memory strips and then restart. Follow any screen message and with luck all will be well.

Try loading Safe defaults (or similar) in the BIOS, save changes & reboot. G
