Add USB2.0 to laptop

Laptop Pentium II 333 with USB1 and PCMCIA R2.0 host adapter - appears to be '16 bit'(I am not entirely clear what this latter aspect means). Is it possible to use USB2.0 card in PCMCIA slot to give USB 2.0 outlets. Many of the USB2.0 cardbus advertisements suggest 32 bit slot is necessary. Am I therefore stuck with USB1.0. I know that my CDRW will work on USB 1.0 but it seems very slow compared to my lower spec Desktop machine, which has USB 2.0

16 bit is too slow for USB 2.0.
