Add ons

I have been having a little problem with slow response in and exiting from web pages, and a message from Microsoft advised on various solutions, one of which was to examinr the Add ons list and disable any which looked suspicious or unwanted.
Now,I was not sure which was which, so I disabled all of them 9 about 8) and this seems to have speeded things up and cured the exiting problem too. But now I have found, with a further mouse click, a host mor Add ons!!!
Questions --- 1 What are Add ons? Who or what put them there and why? Can I disable the lot of them?
Any advice would be most welcome

Best thing is to disable them all. Then enable them all one at a time till you find the one that is slowing you down,And just keep it disabled or try updating that program.
