Hi,

I have an old PC (Pentium 3) that does not work. I think the power supply is malfunctioning as it doesnt turn on. I want to retrieve the data from its two hard drives.

Can i simply remove the hard drives from the old machine and, in addition to its own hard drive, plug them into my newer machine? Would my PC automatically recognise the hard drives and enable me to use them? (I use Windows XP SP2).

Any help or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Make sure your other hard drive is set to slave and take it from there

Can't think of any reason for them not to be recognised as long as the HDD with the O/S on is installed as slave.

You may need to take ownership click here

So if the HDD on my new machine with XP is set as master and the the old HDD with Win 98 is set to slave, XP should be booted at startup.

Is this correct?

Yes
and you can then use Mycomputer to access the drive.
