ActiveX control

  driving man 20:41 27 Apr 06

recently a lot of web sites show a pop up asking if I want to run an ActiveX control. What is this please and is it dangerous or just an annoying problem

They are necessary on some sites - eg WindowsUpdate.

They can also be a means of installing spyware.

What sites are producing them now?

Im not sure but I think I have heard that it can be dodgy allowing access to some Active X from certain sites, I found this site after I typed "WHAT IS ACTIVE X" into my search engine.

Diodorus Siculus this happens on most Aol members profiles, Westfield sportscar owners build sites and many more. All diverse without anything in common

I'd suggest that you switch to FireFox from click here - more secure and you rarely get incompatibilities/
