Can anyone explain what "active X" is. Is it necessary?, is it likely to compromise security?
I have tried to understand it but there seem to be conflicting views on particularly the security issue.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Yes it could cause a threat there is'nt just one Active X but it is also needed by some programmes to run. Providing it is a trusted site should be ok .An example the last one I allowed was to enable sheet music to be downloaded and printed
