Active Desktop turned off

All of a sudden my desktop starts with a white screen (with all the expected icons) & a message "Active Desktop Recovery. Windows has experienced an unexpected error so your active desktop has been turned off."

Clicking on the "Restore My Active Desktop" button brings up a window with the title "IE script error" & a lot of information about line, character & file path.

I have not knowingly changed anything & restoring to a known good point doesn't cure the problem.

Apart from the desktop background the PC appears to behave normally.

Any ideas please?

Thanks Technotiger. Since then the problem has disappeared of its own accord! If it recurs I'll try one of those solutions.
