Activating Firewall'

  Tijs 17:33 24 Jun 03

I am using WinXP and have Norton Anti-virus 2002 protecting my system. In the network connections section I have two catagories 'Dial Up' & 'Lan or High-Speed Internet'.

My internet provider is Freeserve, if I click on properties then the advanced tab is it necessary to put a tick in the Internet Connection Firewall box?

In the Lan & High-Speed Internet section I have the 1394 connection 'Enabled' is this necessary, if so should I tick the box titled 'Internet Connection Firewall'?

I am using a 56k modem.

if you have not got a firewall then YES enable winXPs built in firewall NOW.....

and i would suggest you go to click here and download zone alarm, its free and most of all it works.

when you have got a proper firewall, go back and disable winXPs built in firewall.
good luck

The 1394 connection is your Firewire port - as this can be used to network PCs, XP will apply a firewall if you want. There is no point in you enabling a firewall on your firewire port.
