Acrobat pro 9 trial refuses to activate. Help?

Downloaded Acrobat pro 9 for Windows XP advertised as a trial on Adobe website .
The file is AcroPro90_efg.exe, over 330 Mb

Immediately after proper download and proper installation as a trial and opening it, a window appeared telling me that trial version has expired
and asking go to Adobe website and buy … !

I was told by my father that he had Acrobat Pro trial downloaded on the same PC a couple of years ago and then everything went ok… he had the trial program for about a month and then deleted it.
Since a "secret code" is put on hard disk to prevent a 2nd install, the only way to install the trial 2nd time is to completely wipe your hard drive and install everything again!!!
Sounds very weird to me really!

Apparently there is some file hidden somewhere and  I can delete it
instead of reformatting the whole  HD.

Does anyone know what is this file and how to delete it, so I can install my trial ?

Thanks anyone who may help me with this!

Any step by step, practical advise is welcome, please!
