I've been given acetates made for paintjet printers. Do you think they would be compatible with inkjet printers?

Try them. Remember the roughened surface is the printing surface.

Give it a try!

As long as you don't put incompatible ones in a laser printer, I don't see that you'll cause any damage.

If the images don't turn into blobs of ink (a possibility), you'll need to make sure that they dry properly over a few minutes.
