Acer timekeeping problem

I have an Acer Aspire 5633 Laptop running vista Home premium.It does not keep the correct time for more than about 45 mins.
I have had a number of unexplained shutdowns so immediately thought the CMOS battery would need changing but I am told there is no CMOS battery.

Any ideas about how to rectify the time problem. It is not set to check the time from any web site.

Where did you get that info?
The CMOS battery can be quite hard to access on a laptop.
