Good Evening, My friend has a 3year old Acer Laptop running Windows 7. the problem she has is the laptop will only charge the battery when the pc is switched off. when the pc is swiched on the laptop beeps and will not charge. A local repair man has said its likely to be the battery but cant be sure, apparently the laptop has to be stripped down to gain access to the battery.Has anybody any experience of this problem, she is reluctant to spend £200 without being sure that it is the battery. any help would be appreciated. sorry cant give model number of laptop as it is still with the repair man many thanks

apparently the laptop has to be stripped down to gain access to the battery.

I don't quiet understand why you should think this. It is easy to remove the laptop battery. The battery is located on the underside of the laptop and should have 2 sliding clips which then enables the battery to be lifted upwards. You don't say exactly what the repair man has in mind but £200 seems an awful lot to be paying.
