ACER extensa e series boot problems

I have an Acer extensa eseries desktop PC, not sure which model sorry. When i turn it on, it will not boot to a SATA hard drive. Windows starts to load, then it's as if the drive disappears, the recovery partition doesn't work, the Windows Vista install DVD can't find the drive either. Same happens for the SATA DVD Drive, it just disappears. I tried an IDE Hard Drive and it booted fine, until I installed the SATA controller drivers, then the same problem arose. I'm out of ideas please help me

is the dvd/cd drive ide by any chance? I had an asus mobo with a sata hard drive and ide dvd drive. The mobo had trouble booting from the sata and tried to use the dvd drive as the hdd. I fixed this by changing the dvd drive for a sata one.

No, its a SATA DVD drive, everything seems to work fine through IDE, it just frezes up when the SATA controller is installed. I dont have an IDE DVD Drive to try.

Make sure SATA is enabled in the BIOS.
