acer e system laptop no wireless connection

my aunt has had a an acer laptop e system 3087 for a while now connected to the internet with virgin broadband wired via modem.

she moved house this week and the virgin team sent her a new wireless router and i tried to set it up for her, the virgin side is perfect, my laptop works a treat.

her laptop has an internal 10/100/1000 mbit lan, intel pro wireless 3945abg, i phoned acer who told me that i had to recover the laptop as it looked like it was corrupted.

ive done this, luckily enough she only had a few photos to save, anyway its done a complete recovery and is back to factory settings but still dosnt work

is this internal lan not compatible or will a driver download do the trick?

any ideas
