Acer Aspire T180-black screen sometimes

Acer Aspire T180 Desktop Windows Vista Home Premium Memory 2 GB Anti virus software: AVG Free BIOS R01-B1 Release Date Dec 29, 2006

Intermittently when we boot the computer it gives us the logon screen, then we logon, and sometimes it works fine, then sometimes after a little bit it gives a black screen, and the disk drive light is off, the power light stays on. I have to power it off by holding the power button. Then I turn it back on and tell it to start windows normally and it might work just fine or give the same problem, but generally after 1-3 times then it works fine. It seems to be getting worse.

The Acer site has a BIOS version R01-C0 12/09/2008

I have been wondering if I need to update the BIOS. I see how and where to download it, but am unsure how to install it. I do not understand the directions .

What do you think my problem is and how do I fix it? Thanks, 16 Aug 11

Try the following to discharge and reset your laptop first.

Please remove all removable parts like DVD, exteral USB device(if any), remove battery and unplug the AC adapter, then press the power button over 15 seconds do not let go. Then, connect the AC adapter only and power on the laptop again.

Hope this helps! Bill Tech Manager Wptinc

It is a desktop, not a laptop. Is there a way I should do it for a desktop? The only thing we have plugged in are speakers (which are generally off), printer (which is generally off), Ethernet, mouse (not usb) and keyboard (not usb), and the monitor. Thanks
