hi
this laptop is cutting out after a period of use
temperature monitoring shows its overheating
air vents have been cleaned
old thermal paste cleaned off and renewed
when swithced on the cooling fan initially runs then stops
as the tempterature rises the fan does not cut in
i have also reset bios and reinstalled operating system but this did not help

any help appreciated

thanks
alan

I had this happen in a laptop, found that the fan itself was faulty.
Got one very cheap from my local PC repairer.

I would agree with gengiscant - it has to be the fan that is the problem especially after eliminating other possibilities.
